Random sparse arrays Preliminary 1.0 Random Sparse Arrays: An option for SKAI?

چکیده

One of the major challenges in the design of SKAI is the required ultra-wide frequency bandwidth. The decade of bandwidth could be split up into several frequency regions. For each region a separate radiator could be used with an element distance smaller than λ/2 in order to avoid grating lobes. The main disadvantages of this concept are the complexity (costs) and mutual coupling between the various radiating elements. A more attractive option for SKAI (from a cost and complexity point of view) is the use of ultra wideband elements that cover a decade of bandwidth. These elements could be placed at λ/2 at the lowest frequency. As a result, the element spacing would by equal to 5λ at the highest frequency. An antenna element in this array could be a log-periodic antenna, a bunny-ear antenna or a Vivaldi type of radiator. The disadvantage of this so-called sparse-array concept is the appearance of grating lobes at the higher frequencies and the fact that the effective area decreases as λ with increasing frequency. 2

Sparse Cantor Ring Antenna Arrays with Non- Uniform Element Spacing

This research project is based on previous work done by Dwight L. Jaggard and Aaron D. Jaggard on fractal ring arrays. We utilize fractals in the fabrication of a class of Cantor ring arrays. Fractal descriptors such as dimension, stage of growth, and lacunarity are applied in designing and characterizing these Cantor rings. Using the continuous arrays developed by Jaggard and Jaggard as a poin...

Sparse MIMO Radar with Random Sensor Arrays and Kerdock Codes

We derive a theoretical framework for the recoverability of targets in the azimuth-range-Doppler domain using random sensor arrays and tools developed in the area of compressive sensing. In one manifestation of our theory we use Kerdock codes as transmission waveforms and exploit some of their peculiar properties in our analysis. Not only is our result the first rigorous mathematical theory for...

MARCINKIEWICZ-TYPE STRONG LAW OF LARGE NUMBERS FOR DOUBLE ARRAYS OF NEGATIVELY DEPENDENT RANDOM VARIABLES

In the following work we present a proof for the strong law of large numbers for pairwise negatively dependent random variables which relaxes the usual assumption of pairwise independence. Let be a double sequence of pairwise negatively dependent random variables. If for all non-negative real numbers t and , for 1 < p < 2, then we prove that (1). In addition, it also converges to 0 in ....

The TileDB Array Data Storage Manager

We present a novel storage manager for multi-dimensional arrays that arise in scientific applications, which is part of a larger scientific data management system called TileDB. In contrast to existing solutions, TileDB is optimized for both dense and sparse arrays. Its key idea is to organize array elements into ordered collections called fragments. Each fragment is dense or sparse, and groups...

Optimization of the Beampattern of 2D Sparse Arrays by Weighting

A method is presented which optimizes weights of general planar 1D and 2D symmetric full and sparse arrays. The objective is to nd a weighting of the array elements which gives the minimum sidelobe level of the array pattern in a speci ed region the stopband. The sidelobe level is controlled on a discrete set of points from this region. The method minimizes the Chebyshev norm of the sidelobe le...
